Easy and Fresh

September 28th, 2010 § 7 comments § permalink

Something I often struggle with when I get dressed is wearing what’s easy versus what’s fresh.  Easy is likely something I had worn previously or recently, or maybe an outfit I had put together before.  Whereas fresh is a more unlikely combination, something maybe a bit outside my comfort zone, or even just a new spin on an old favorite.

This outfit combines both scenarios: this chambray top is a favorite go-to of mine, and these pants are a definite staple in my wardrobe (I mean they are black pants!). The spin comes from pairing them with these fun wedge boots, messy beach hair and elongating accessories.  Maybe this doesn’t seem like much, but these small changes give this look a totally different feel, something so important for a girl like me who’s working a wardrobe on a budget.

This yummy Coach bag is a special piece in my closet. My grandparents gave it to my Mom on her 10 year wedding anniversary.  I happen to be obsessed with this line of camel leather Coach bags from the 90′s and after noticing she hadn’t worn it for a while I crossed my fingers and asked if I could borrow it.  And, well, you see how that turned out.  Thanks, Mom!

Chambray Night

July 22nd, 2010 § 2 comments § permalink

After a long weekend of travel I was looking forward to spending a lazy night at home.  Austin went to pick up a pizza for dinner and boy was I surprised when he came home with a bundle of flowers!  I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful husband.  These sweet yellow daisies were so cheerful I wanted to show them off with my outfit.

I made this headband to wear in Chicago, but never ended up doing so.  For a few meetings and errands today I thought it was the perfect way to add some color to this look.  I wore a larger version of it here.  Interested in making one for yourself?  Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you how!

Chambray Top: Wal-Mart (Men’s section)
Dress: Layered slip dresses from F21 and Akira Chicago
Belt: Target
Shoes: F21
Headband: DIY (Instructions coming tomorrow!)

I also want to take a minute to send a sincere Thank You! to everyone who has entered the Isolá Stella Pump giveaway so far.  Your kind words are so sweet and encouraging, I feel so lucky to share Ordinarily Urbane with such a wonderful community of readers!

If you haven’t entered yet, you can do so here.  You have until Friday at 11am EST to win a gorgeous pair of Isolá Stella pumps, so enter now!
